Bivio Privacy Policy

Effective date: July 12, 2026

Bivio is a bedtime-story app made for families: a parent or guardian holds the account, reads aloud, and the child chooses the path. Because children use Bivio alongside their parents, we hold ourselves to the strictest children's-privacy standard — and we designed the app so there is very little to collect in the first place.

The short version:

  • We never show ads, and we never sell or rent your data — or your child's — to anyone.
  • We do not use third-party analytics, advertising, or tracking SDKs. Usage data goes only to our own servers.
  • We never ask for your child's real name, exact birth date, photo, voice, location, or contact details. A child profile is a nickname and a birth month/year — nothing else.
  • You can delete your account, and everything identifiable in it, from inside the app at any time.

The rest of this policy explains the details.

Who we are

Bivio is operated by David Zarinski ("Bivio", "we", "us").

  • Email: [email protected]
  • Mailing address: 161 Everwoods Close SW, Calgary, AB T2Y 4R6, Canada

We are the sole operator responsible for information collected through the Bivio app and website. If you have any question about this policy or your family's data, contact us at the email above.

Information we collect

From you (the parent or guardian)

  • Account details. Your email address and a password (stored only as a secure hash — we cannot read it). You can also use Bivio without creating a full account; in that case we hold only an anonymous account identifier until you choose to sign up.
  • Subscription status. Whether your household has an active subscription or trial. Payment itself is handled entirely by Apple or Google — we never see your card number or billing details.
  • Onboarding answers. Optional questions about what you hope to get out of bedtime stories, used to set up your library.

About your child

We deliberately collect the minimum needed to pick the right stories:

  • A nickname for the child's profile. We ask you not to use your child's real full name.
  • Birth month and year (never the day), so stories match the child's age.

That is the complete list. We never collect a child's real name, exact birthday, email, photo, video, voice recording, precise location, contacts, or any government or persistent device identifier. Bivio has no chat, no free-text input for children, and no way for a child to make information public.

Usage data (how the app is used)

To run Bivio and improve the stories, our own servers record app activity: which stories were opened, pages read, choices made, ratings given, which screens were viewed, and basic diagnostics (app version, platform, operating system major version, a coarse device class such as model and memory size, language setting, and timestamps).

This activity is keyed to random internal identifiers, not to names. It contains no advertising identifier, no precise location, no IP-based location profile, and no free-text. It is sent only to our own backend — no analytics or advertising company receives it.

Children's privacy (our COPPA statement)

Bivio is designed for parents to use together with children ages 3–7, and we treat all data about child profiles as children's data under the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) and similar laws.

  • What we collect relating to a child: the nickname and birth month/year you provide, and the reading activity described above (stories, pages, choices, ratings), keyed to a random profile identifier.
  • How we use it: solely to operate Bivio and personalize story recommendations for your family — what the law calls "internal operations." We do not use children's data for advertising of any kind, and we do not sell, rent, or share it with third parties for their own purposes.
  • Your rights as a parent. At any time you may:
    • review the information in your child's profile (it is visible in the app's settings);
    • delete it — deleting a child profile, or your whole account, removes the identifiable information immediately;
    • refuse further collection by deleting the profile or account, or by contacting us at [email protected].
  • We will never require more information than is reasonably necessary in order to use the app.

To exercise any of these rights, use the in-app controls or email [email protected] from the address on the account, and we will verify the request and respond promptly.

How we use information

  • To provide the service: your library, reading progress, story recommendations, and subscription access.
  • To improve Bivio: understanding which stories families love, where readers stop, and how the app performs on different devices.
  • To communicate with you about your account when necessary.

We do not use your information for behavioural advertising, we do not build advertising profiles, and we do not sell or rent personal information.

Service providers

A small number of companies process data on our behalf, under contracts that limit them to providing their service to us:

Provider What they do What they receive
Convex Hosts our database and backend The account and usage data described above
RevenueCat Manages subscription status across devices A random billing identifier and purchase information from the app store — never your email, name, or any child data
Apple / Google Process payments and deliver the app Your payment details, under their own terms and privacy policies
Expo (EAS) Delivers app updates Standard technical request data (e.g. app version) when the app checks for updates
Resend Sends account email (e.g. password-reset codes) Your email address and the message content — never any child data

We do not use any third-party analytics, advertising, attribution, session-replay, or fingerprinting service.

Our services are hosted in the United States, so your information is processed there. If you use Bivio from elsewhere, you consent to that transfer; we apply the same protections regardless of where you live.

Data retention and deletion

  • Account deletion is built in. Deleting your account in the app immediately removes your email, your account record, and all child profiles.
  • Usage records are de-identified, not kept about you. After account deletion, the reading-activity records described above no longer connect to any person — the identifiers they carry resolve to no one. We retain these anonymous records to improve the story catalogue.
  • Full erasure on request. If you would like even the de-identified activity records erased, email [email protected] and we will delete them.

Security

We protect your information with encryption in transit, hashed passwords, and access controls limiting who at Bivio can touch production data. No system is perfectly secure, but we collect so little that the stakes are deliberately low.

Changes to this policy

If we change this policy, we will post the new version at https://bivioapp.com/privacy and update the effective date. If a change materially affects how we handle children's data, we will notify account holders and, where the law requires it, obtain fresh consent before the change applies.
